On the brink
CoHousing
Sheffield

About Our Community
On The Brink is an intentional cohousing community in Nether Edge, Sheffield.
Our ongoing aim is to create a community which can be a model for other cohousing groups and to engage with the wider community in promoting ideas of community and sustainability. We want to share, generate and support events and celebrations in the local community whilst being aware of wider social, environmental and political issues
Residents of On The Brink (OTB) have their own individual living space and there is communal space for the sharing of cooking, eating, gardening, meeting, relaxing and having fun together. The buildings of the cohousing community sit within a couple of acres of grounds including some wild land, a vegetable garden, a large enclosed garden and some impressive and unusual trees. Nether Edge is a popular residential area with plenty of facilities and good public transport links to central Sheffield. It is one of the many interesting and leafy areas of Sheffield with the added bonus of being a short drive or walk up Porter Brook through Endcliffe Park, to the Peak District. Here is a write up from the Guardian from 2010 that gives you an idea of the area.
Our community is multi-generational and based on companionship, ecological awareness and mutual respect for each other in all our diversity.
In early 2021 we completed the second phase of our project which was the construction of 4 new properties on site. In total we are now 26 members aging from 6 to 76.  You can meet some our members here.
