On the brink
CoHousing
Sheffield

About On The Brink

We are establishing a new intentional cohousing community in Brincliffe, Nether Edge, Sheffield. We intend to create a community which is a model for other cohousing groups and to engage with the wider community in promoting ideas of community and sustainability.

Residents of On The Brink (OTB) have their own individual living space and there is communal space for the sharing of cooking, eating, gardening, meeting, relaxing and having fun together. We want to share, generate and support events and celebrations in the local community whilst being aware of larger social, environmental and political issues.

We aim to establish a multi-generational community that is and based on companionship, ecological awareness and mutual respect for each other in all our diversity.

The first phase of our project has been successfully completed and there are sixteen OTB members aged from 4 to 72 living in the twelve flats that have been created, you can meet our members here.

The planning for the second phase of the project includes four additional living units that will create homes for our completed community.
More information about the planning for our next phase can be found on our supporter page here

Nether Edge is a popular residential area with plenty of facilities and good public transport links to central Sheffield. It is one of the many interesting and leafy areas of Sheffield with the added bonus of being a short drive or walk up Porter Brook through Endcliffe Park, to the Peak District. Here is a write up from the Guardian from 2010 that gives you an idea of the area.

The buildings of the cohousing community sit within several acres of well-kept grounds with lots of large impressive and unusual trees as well as a large enclosed garden accessed by a drive on each side of the site.
